Marble: tall, narrow, and notched in a way
that boxed in what can be wrought. It gave pause …
No wonder many carvers walked away,
thus dragged to the square, since run through with flaws.
An exposed, botched relic, given the snub,
languishing, unwieldy, so neglected.
Silent challenge to the artistic hub.
What can emerge from a mass rejected?
An artist does not chisel a statue,
rather away excess debris is peeled.
Hidden, now liberated, broken through,
so a perfected visage is revealed.
Can artistry worked by a craftswoman wife
inspire her husband to a discerning life?
